The Alliance Theatre

at the Woodruff Arts Center

In my role as a Graphic Designer for the Tony Award-winning® Alliance Theatre at the Woodruff Arts center, I collaborate closely with a dedicated team to promote the theater’s shows and educational programs. I am responsible for creating and executing various marketing materials and graphics. My main focus is maintaining the Theatre's brand integrity across physical, digital, and environmental platforms. I also generate new creative assets to market our productions, and ongoing programming. Additionally, I work with other departments to create assets for fundraising and educational outreach efforts, contributing to the broader goals of the theater.

As the primary creator for graphic design needs across all of the theater’s different departments, I handle everything from digital to print, including flyers, posters, and advertising to mailers, reports, and presentations. I also provide art direction in collaboration with our social media manager, working closely with photographers and videographers to capture marketing assets that stay true to our brand!

In this role, I play a pivotal part in ensuring the visual identity and marketing efforts of our theater align seamlessly with our brand, contributing to our mission's success and engaging the city of Atlanta.

SHOW ART

Over the course of six months, I created/designed almost all the show art (with the exception of Doctor De Soto and A Christmas Carol, which both already had existing art) for the 2024/25 season, in collaboration with the theater’s co-artistic directors, the director of marketing, and in conversation with playwrights, producers, and directors. Throughout the season, my art will be used for many different purposes, including both print and digital assets, such as our season brochure, flyers, web ads, posters, and billboards, to promote and market each show.

Art Direction

A Christmas Carol

As one of Atlanta's most beloved holiday traditions, A Christmas Carol holds a deeply special place in the heart of the Alliance Theatre. This production, cherished by audiences year after year, carries with it the warmth and nostalgia of the season. In collaboration with our Social Media and Content Manager, I had the privilege of leading the art direction for a photoshoot that brought our talented actors to life in their iconic roles—Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Marley, and the Ghost of Christmas Past. With the vision to evoke both the timelessness of the story and its unique energy for a modern audience, we carefully crafted each shot. The actors were photographed against a green screen, allowing us the flexibility to create a dynamic final product. After the shoot, I took charge of the editing and retouching process, transforming the raw images into striking, high-impact visuals that would become the cornerstone of our marketing campaign. The final materials, designed to resonate across multiple platforms, were optimized for emails, social feeds, Instagram stories, and even for ATL’s public transport - MARTA . Each image was crafted to capture the spirit of the season, while also drawing in new and returning audiences, ensuring A Christmas Carol remains a highlight of the Atlanta holiday experience. THE MOUNTAINTOP

“The Mountaintop is a gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Taking place on April 3, 1968, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis after delivering one of his most memorable speeches. When a mysterious young woman named Camae delivers room service, the two engage in humorous conversation that progresses into a soul-searching discussion about their mutual hopes and fears. When Camae reveals a secret, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people” (alliancetheatre.org/mountaintop). For our promotional photos and this production, we aimed to present Martin Luther King Jr. (portrayed by Rob Demery) as a fully realized individual, embracing both his humanity and complexity—his flaws, fears, joy, and sorrow. To achieve this, we had Rob hold printed copies of MLK Jr.'s iconic speech while incorporating a cigarette into the scene. The smoke effect was added in post-production, carefully enhancing the atmosphere. The final composition captures the weight of responsibility etched on MLK Jr.'s face, while Camae (portrayed by Jade Payton) exudes a playful yet enigmatic presence, inviting deeper reflection. Educational and Artistic Events

Toddler Takeover

Every year the Alliance puts on this one-of-a-kind experience developed for children from birth through 5 years old that featured performances from the Kathy & Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young, art-making at the High Museum of Art, and activities with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians. For this event, I created t-shirts, fans, mugs, vinyl acrylic stars that stuck to the floor, and all signage and programs.

In addition to creating any and all assets and ads for our shows, I also create collateral for our many events on the Woodruff Arts Center campus, including Toddler Takeover, and Walk with Amal.

Amal Walks Across America: A Nationwide Journey Spanning More than 35 Cities & Towns, 100 Events 300+ Partners

Little Amal is the 12 foot puppet of  a 10 year old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk.  She has become a global symbol of human rights, especially those of refugees.

Between 7 September and 26 November 2023, Amal is journeying 11,000 miles across the United States and Mexico in one of the largest free public festivals ever created.  40 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 6 cities from Tijuana to Tapachula will create 100+ free public events to welcome her.

Since July 2021, Amal has travelled over 6,000 miles to 15 countries, and been welcomed by more than a million people on the street, including hundreds of artists and civil society and faith leaders, as well as by tens of millions online.

The puppet of Little Amal was designed and built by Handspring Puppet Company.

For the event at the theater, I created informational way-finding signs, flyers, posters, and retractable banners using and working with Little Amal’s Marketing Toolkit.
